A credit book for butcher shops

At a butcher’s, credit amounts are larger and most of them are sold by weight. With Baki Fast you write how many kilos of what at which price, close restaurant accounts every week and split big festival orders into instalments.

How credit works at a butcher’s

A butcher has two kinds of credit customer. Regular families take a kilo of mince or a few cuts every week and pay once a month. Restaurants, grill stalls, caterers and home cooks buy large amounts daily or every other day and settle weekly or every two weeks.

Then come the peaks. Before Eid al-Adha, Christmas, Diwali feasts or the wedding season, orders jump, and many families pay for a whole animal or a large order in several parts before the day.

What usually goes wrong

  • Prices moved, the record did not: when meat prices rise, a customer says “I paid less last month”. Without that day’s price per kilo written down, you have no answer.
  • A restaurant’s growing bill: a restaurant buying large amounts every day that skips two weeks of payment builds a big debt very fast.
  • Shared animals: when several families share one animal, keeping track of who has paid what on paper is very hard.
  • Your own debt: what you owe the abattoir or livestock dealer gets lost in the same notebook.

Setting up a butcher’s book in Baki Fast

  1. Add families and restaurants as separate customers. For a restaurant, use the number of whoever pays.
  2. Write credit with item lines: “1.5 kg mince × 12”, “2 kg chops × 18”. Weights can have decimals, the total is calculated, and that day’s price stays on the record.
  3. Give restaurant accounts a one-week due date; late payers show up in the overdue list.
  4. Split a festival order with instalments, for example three monthly parts. Each part becomes its own entry with its own due date, and the balance stays the same.
  5. Add your meat supplier as a supplier. Write what you buy as a purchase and what you pay as a payment; cash paid out comes off the till too.

A weekly reminder for a restaurant

Weekly restaurant account

Hello Chef Ade, this is Prime Cuts. Your meat account for 21-27 October comes to 1,845. The kilo-by-kilo list is attached. Could you settle it on Friday? Thank you and have a good service.

For the attachment, send the customer’s statement as a PDF, or print it with Print Fast on a thermal printer and put the slip in with the delivery.

To show a family how a festival order splits into parts before you agree, try the installment calculator. It shows each part and its date.

Questions

Can I use decimals when selling by weight?

Yes. In an item line you can enter a quantity like 1.5 or 0.75; the line total is the quantity times the unit price.

Should each family in a shared animal have its own account?

That is the simplest way: add each family as a customer and write their share on their own account. Then each one gets a reminder for their own balance.

Can I print a slip on delivery?

Yes. Entry slips and statements print on 58 or 80 mm Bluetooth thermal printers through the Print Fast app, which is a separate app.
