GST calculator (India)
Add GST to a price or take it out in one step: ₹1,000 plus 18% GST is ₹1,180, and a GST-inclusive ₹1,180 holds ₹180 of tax. Within a state that tax is split half CGST, half SGST; between states it is all IGST.

The GST rates since 22 September 2025
| Rate | What it covers (in short) |
|---|---|
| 0% | Nil rate: UHT milk, paneer, Indian breads, individual health and life insurance. |
| 5% | Merit rate: most everyday goods, such as packaged food, toiletries, medicines, and clothing and shoes up to ₹2,500. |
| 18% | Standard rate: most other goods and services. |
| 40% | Special rate: sweetened and fizzy drinks, larger cars and motorcycles, betting, and tobacco from 1 February 2026. |
| 3% | Gold, silver and jewellery. |
The 12% and 28% slabs no longer apply to new invoices. This table is a summary: the rate of an item depends on its HSN code, so check the rate notification or ask your CA when unsure.
How the calculator works
- Add GST: GST = price × rate; the price with GST = price + GST.
- Remove GST: price without GST = price with GST ÷ (1 + rate); GST = the difference.
- Within a state: CGST and SGST (or UTGST) are half the rate each. Between states: IGST is the whole rate.
- Amounts are rounded to the paisa; when the tax is taken out of a price, the two parts always add up to the price.
₹2,360 including 18% GST, sold within the state: 2,360 ÷ 1.18 = ₹2,000 without GST GST ₹360 = CGST ₹180 + SGST ₹180
Items at different rates on one bill
Press Add an item at another rate and give each line its own rate. The tax is worked out per rate and added up.
₹500 of packaged food at 5% + ₹1,000 of other goods at 18%, before tax: 500 × 5% = ₹25 1,000 × 18% = ₹180 GST ₹205, bill ₹1,705

Questions
How do I calculate GST from the total amount?
Divide the total by 1 + the rate: by 1.18 for 18%, by 1.05 for 5%. The result is the price without GST; the difference is the GST.
Are the 12% and 28% GST rates gone?
Yes. Since 22 September 2025 most items are at 5% or 18%, and a short list of luxury and sin goods is at 40%.
Is 18% GST taken as 18% of the inclusive price?
No. 18% of ₹1,180 is ₹212.40, but the GST inside ₹1,180 is ₹180: 1,180 × 18 ÷ 118.
